Institute on Theology and Disability to be Hosted by Boston College

June 17-20, 2024

Boston College and its School of Theology and Ministry will be the host for the 2024 Institute on Theology and Disability on June 17-20, 2024. The conference will be both in-person and virtual. Current planning is focused on inviting plenary speakers, recruiting workshop and discussion proposals, and seeking collaborative partners in the Boston area. (Note: the deadline for Workshop Proposals has been extended until January 31.)

One day of the conference will be specifically focused as an opportunity for people in the Boston area to participate on the assumption that four days may be more difficult for some.

The Institute is an accessible and inclusive four-day gathering of leading scholars, writers, faith leaders, advocates, and others committed to advancing inclusive ministries and faith supports.

The Institute celebrates, explores, and investigates the ways that:

  • Disability impacts all major theological disciplines as well as the many dimensions of religious life and faith community practices.

  • Theology and practice mutually inform and support one another.

  • Diverse perspectives enrich and inform theological formation and religious practice.

The Institute includes six to eight plenary sessions, including an Emerging Scholar lecture chosen by a competition, twenty to thirty workshops, and other opportunities to network with others interested in the intersections of faith and disability. The annual Institute began in 2010 and has been held every year except for a two-year Covid hiatus.
